Life is Like Football…..it all Starts with the Game Plan

The game of life is a lot like football. You have to tackle your problems, block your fears, and score some points when you get the opportunity.

What’s in Your Game Plan?

A game plan is defined as a carefully thought-out strategy or course of action, as in politics, business, or one’s personal affairs.  While in sports, it is the overall strategy of a team for winning a specific game.

Strategy

Like football your game plan must focus on the future not dwelling on past wins or loses. To strategize successfully you must know every aspect of what it is you are going up against; therefore, you will be able to anticipate what could go right or wrong. No one can win every game, win every election, obtain every job, or promotion, but you can come very close.

You cannot give up when things get bad; continue working even when you are down never fall in order to never fall short. Learn from your mistakes, celebrate your wins but always revise your game plan to prepare for the next step.  Even when you win their will always be additional competition and new obstacles to tackle.  It is important not to become complacent after a win, because at that point you will not challenge yourself to go the extra mile.  I have observed people who after getting a promotion they stop working as hard.  My philosophy is that you take one day to celebrate, but the next day you start working on the next promotion.

Preparation

To ensure success you should make it a priority to have a game plan.  In life, just like football anything can happen, so it is critical that you fully prepare yourself.  Football players spend hours each week training to better their craft.  These same theories can apply to most aspects of life, for example if you are a student you need to study to maintain or increase your grades and knowledge of the subject.

Continue to learn to strengthen your skills to be well prepared for future career opportunities. In the words of Vince Lombardi Football is like life – it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.

We are in control of our own destiny; the path you choose should be your own as you too have internal greatness!
